Governors

Governors at Our Lady’s Bishop Eton

All schools in England have a governing body. They are the strategic decision makers for  their schools. They play a very important role in ensuring that every child receives the best possible education. That means making headteachers accountable for data, performance of pupils, teachers and finances and asking the right questions. It means ensuring resources are allocated appropriately and safeguarding the highest standards of financial propriety. It also means ensuring that schools prepare pupils for life including implementing their Prevent duty and promoting fundamental British Values to protect them from the risks of extremism and radicalisation.

The Governing Board works in close partnership with the Headteacher, staff and the Archdiocese of Liverpool to deliver the following core functions, having responsibility for:

• developing a vision and strategy for the school, ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
• overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
• holding the Headteacher to account to ensure that every pupil has the best possible education
• engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the school community to understand their views

The Governing Board consists of 12 members:
• The Headteacher
• One elected staff governor
• Seven foundation governors
• One appointed local authority governor
• Two elected parent governors

Message from Dr. Phil Doyle, Chair of Governors

As Chair of Governors, I can assure you that the governors are committed to doing all they can to ensure that the school continues to provide the highest quality of education with plenty of opportunities for a wide range of activities and experiences outside the classroom.
We do this by being closely involved in all aspects of school life so that we can support the Head and all staff in ensuring that the school more than meets all the statutory requirements and by battling, where necessary, to ensure they have all the funding and resources available.

As governors we have an excellent relationship with all staff which enables us to operate as trusted, critical friends.
Several of us have a long relationship with the school as past or present parents or past pupils. In my case all five of my children attended and enjoyed their primary education at the school. We also have a strong relationship with the parish.

Our variety of backgrounds and experiences, including two of us having experience as head teachers, myself in secondary education and another governor in primary education, blend together to produce a very experienced and hard-working group. We also keep ourselves updated by regularly attending Governor training for our specific roles.
I can be contacted via the school, details as follows;
